The short version. Little Layers has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no server of ours. Everything the app knows about you and your children is stored on your own device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, in your own iCloud account. We cannot see any of it.

There is no Little Layers server. Syncing between your devices, and with anyone you invite, happens entirely inside Apple’s iCloud using your own storage. We hold no keys and have no administrative access.
Location
If you allow it, the app uses your device’s location while you are using it for one purpose: to ask Apple’s WeatherKit service for the forecast at that location. Your coordinates are sent to Apple, not to us. The last coordinates are cached on your device so the app can refresh the forecast in the background without waking the location services.
You can refuse location access and still use every feature: pick a saved place instead.
Apple’s handling of WeatherKit requests is covered by Apple’s own privacy policy and their weather data attribution page, which the app links to on every screen that shows weather data.
HomeKit
If you choose to connect a temperature sensor, the app reads the current temperature from HomeKit on your device and stores that number locally. Nothing about your home, your accessories, or your HomeKit setup leaves your device. The HomeKit permission prompt only appears if you tap to connect a sensor.
Notifications
The morning briefing and rain alerts are composed on your device and scheduled locally. There is no push server, so no notification content is transmitted anywhere.
Children’s data
The app is used by parents and carers, not by children. It stores a child’s first name and date of birth because the advice depends on their age. That information is stored on your device and in your own iCloud, as described above, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
None. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party code that could track you. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking and no tracking domains. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties.
Deleting your data
- Individual children or places: delete them in the app; the deletion syncs to your other devices and to anyone you’ve shared with.
- Everything on a device: delete the app. That removes the app’s local storage.
- Your iCloud copy: iOS Settings ▸ your name ▸ iCloud ▸ Manage Account Storage, where Little Layers’s iCloud data can be deleted.
- Family sharing: either person can stop sharing at any time from Settings ▸ Family in the app.
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction and erasure. In Little Layers’s case those rights are satisfied directly by the app: the data is in your possession, and you can view, change or delete all of it without asking us. If you believe otherwise, or want to raise a concern, contact us at support@opticode.ltd and we will respond.
The Android app
The Android version of Little Layers stores everything on your device only. There is no iCloud on Android and version 1 has no syncing of any kind: your children’s details, saved places and settings never leave your phone. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Like the iOS app, the Android app sends your location (or the coordinates of a saved place you choose) to Apple’s weather service (WeatherKit) to fetch the forecast, over an encrypted connection. That request is not linked to any account and we never see it. Everything else in this policy applies to Android exactly as it does to iOS: no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no server of ours.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, where the change is material, note it in the app’s release notes.
